And watching interviews in which Hilaria exaggerated her accent, one that she appropriated as an adult, is downright infuriating. While she found success this way, American immigrants from all over the world — especially immigrants of color — are constantly ostracized and marginalized, ridiculed and given fewer opportunities, all for not having “perfect” English. It’s a great source of shame for so many who bend over backward to try to find a place in a society that still largely rejects them.

The decades-old rejection of foreign accents is so widespread and traumatizing that entire generations of children were never taught their native languages by their immigrant parents so that their offspring wouldn’t have the accent they struggled with, the accent that made their life more difficult every single day. These parents were robbed of sharing their beautiful cultures with their children just so they wouldn’t go through the pain of being made fun of and “othered” like they were.

Oy vey the fake victimhood crap is a bridge too far for me. No country in the world does more for immigrants than the U.S. We treat immigrants so well, Hillary is a rich white WASP who decided to cosplay as an immigrant to boost her career. Hillary recognized the very real incentives to be perceived as a foreigner in the U.S.

I do think the People article is mawkish, but I think you're wrong that she did it to boost her career. Her career got NO benefit from it. She got Alec with the cosplay, and that's it.

You don't think Hola! paid her to be on the cover of their magazine? What about all the $50k instagram sponsored posts?

What sponcon did she get BECAUSE she falsely portrayed Spanish background? Any Goya ads? I've seen her hawk Nive and cleaning products. In what way did the Spanish fakery improve her "influencer" career versus any other celeb wife with an Instagram?

And no, I don't think she was paid to be on Hola.

Pics of Alec from today

Alec is too old for all of this.

Why are you all mean for no reason? He's a very handsome man and their family is gorgeous.

I don't think we are mean. I think we are doing them a favor. Hillary now has the exposure she has worked for years to achieve. No one is making anything up, just laying out the facts.

And this is subjective but Alec DOES look rough in those pics. I could curl up and sleep in those eye bags. Woof.

Has Hilaria issued an apology or explanation en espanol?

I assume that she would if she could. Maybe she can't so she won't.

You clearly don't understand how Channel marketing works. You do a bunch of non-paid magazine layouts and interviews so that you can get the $50 to 100k sponsorships

He is an older handsome man. He is old enough to be Hilaria’s father. He should be enjoying his golden years.

He is certainly enjoying his golden years. Hilaria is not making all these babies herself. Alec has one hot wife, who is remaining fit doing yoga. People have been angry with Alec because Trump lost and he mocked Trump in SNL.

BTW - how old is Trump as compared to Melanie, his 3rd wife, who he cheated on with Stormy Daniels, as he was sexually assaulting women? Double Standards!!

What Hilaria did was not kosher but I am not expecting a celeb to be clued in. She may be foolish, but the anger against her from majority White women for something that no one else cares for, sounds very personal and rabid.

What career? Amal Clooney, Tran Ho, Alexi Ashe have careers. This nobody college dropout doesn't have one.

What's with the nasty elitism? No, she wasn't a doctor or a lawyer. She was a yoga teacher. And being a lawyer didn't stop Amal Clooney from being an attention seeker just like yogini Hilaria.

Anyway, my point was that the Spanish fakery didn't have any positive career impact, as so many are claiming.

Fun fact: Alec's character in Married to the Mob is Frank the Cucumber Demarco

Here’s a clip of Alec impersonating Hilaria’s “Spanish” accent and telling Letterman that his wife is from Spain.

You're either stupid or you are a paid shill for the Baldwins. Yes her so-called exotic background did get her sponsorships and got her a position on Extra with Mario Lopez

Ah yes, only those of us with deep knowledge of "Channel marketing" can understand that celebrities do magazines and TV spots as self-promo to help raise their profile so they can get advertising deals. Please, inform those of living in ignorance, oh wise one.

And once you do that, you'll still need to offer up some sort of evidence that her fake Spanish identity was the reason for a substantial chunk of her following, and not the fact that she was a celebrity's wife who aggressively sought the spotlight.

And he's been a major narcissistically inclined, histrionic hothead. Maybe he has evolved. But he is probably not an easy man to live with, handsome has a way of wearing off quickly in these kinds of situations. Hopefully he has matured.

You'd be cute if you weren't so stupid. The fact that you think it's majority white women who are complaining shows how truly ignorant you are. Nice try moron.

It’s what should be done. Laugh at the grift instead of pretending that others got it wrong or that she never lied...

Nope, it's not elitism and it's not about being a lawyer or a doctor. Tracey Stewart is a vet technician and has a legit amazing career doing animal advocacy and writing about sustainable living without trolling for attention with a fake foreign accent.
