DC Metro area has 6x the population as Raleigh metro area... yet has just 3x the clubs. There area very high quality clubs in the area and from those clubs, some awesome age groups who are in the top amongst the country. Whether they win the national championship doesn't equate to a team that isn't top. Solar, LA, PDA, Hawks, etc, don't always win their respective age group championships, yet they are top in rankings. Got to realize we are a very, very large metro area and the number of clubs reflect that. There are very good coaches who guide their teams to success on the field, zero doubt. Those to complain on this thread have teams that are mediocre; some of us watch stunning play and can see the hard work paying off. |
| Looking at the rosters for the older boys' teams, where are the SYC kids? Did EM and PM go to all the trouble of engineering this "merger" just to keep their kids for MLS Next? |
Yes. One or two of the McLean kids went to SYC for MLSNext. No traffic in the other direction. |
| How did the 09 girls do over the weekend? |
Like a number of higher-talent boys at ecnl clubs who made the switch to MLS next. Arlington, Loudoun and VDA all lost players. |
PP here--moved away from the area, but may be coming back and want to stay current. Interesting; I see the ECNL rosters of kids my boys used to play with and I, in some cases, helped coach. Hard to picture that SYC and Alexandria have put together higher-quality rosters than Arlington, for example. |
MLS next is funny. 😂 Fools gold. |
They haven’t. ECNL teams scrimmage MLS next teams all the time and MLS teams are not superior. Check for example VDA Friendlies for some ECNL-MLS next competition. In Union’’s case, McLean has been weak on the boys’ side, so the top boy from the 05 team moved to the mls team. Not sure there was much movement in other age groups. Nothing earth shattering. As far as other ECNL teams go, nothing more than the usual movement with a couple of players switching here and there. |
| I was told top MLS Next SYC players were going to be duel rostered on the ECNL team too. Did that not happen? My DS is still a year away from this |
Agreed! |
| I can assure you folks that NC Courage isn't built off of elite athletes or raiding the best players from other clubs as is the case with many top clubs around the country. Courage does land some players form other clubs, but they are predominantly built on in-house player development. The rosters for each Courage age group are mostly the same players who have been there since U12. |
It makes a huge difference when a team stays together from U12 through U18. They learn to play as a team, understand their weaknesses, as well as their opponents and make the needed adjustments for each opponent. |
MLS Next players can't dual roster with an ECNL team nor can MLS Next players play for their high school soccer team (unless you get a waiver). This was determined a while back. |
Except they can for Va Union. I think there are a couple of players who are rostered on the ECNL team and can guest play in a certain number of games wirh SYC’s MLS next team. |
Yep. This is the only way this is supposed to work. Mls next players cannot play ecnl or other league games. |
