Is this information listed anywhere - like my kid was excited about after school basketball. Will that be cut? |
I'm not sure how many times people have to explain this to you - the county has a budget and the school system has a budget. The MS after school programs come out of the county budget, while school programming, busses, etc. come out of the FCPS (school system) budget. |
A bunch of our emergency services funding comes through an agreement with USAID to provide training grants in exchange for our firefighters being deployed to support their efforts. There goes our emergency services budget. |
Yes, that's through the county. Everything at the middle school afterschool is through the county programming. The ONLY FCPS afterschool programming is running. |
I don't understand the drama over middle school start times. Our third is now in 7th. Yes, its early. So what? Its only two years. Someone has to go early. Have your kids in bed without screens in their room by 9 pm. They will fall asleep, I promise. |
I think its the parents who don't want to wake up early! |
I am bumping this up for the lady who keeps talking about this on the other thread. Here you go. Whine away. |
If there’s no money for after school clubs they might as well go forward with the plan for having middle school start last. Then you don’t have to worry about a bunch of 7th and 8th graders running wild every afternoon. |
How would they do track then? |
They dont? Or they do it in the morning? |
This is the point - no one should HAVE to go early in one of the richest school districts in one of the richest countries in the world. |
We are not one of the richest school districts. We have 40% farms kids and all the costs that go with that. We don't even supply teachers with textbooks or workbooks or leason plans. We are a second class school system. |
Fine, you pay for it. They can't fundd the budget as it is, much less buy the buses so little Johnny can sleep an extra 30 minutes. Millions have kids have successfully survived these start times. Deal with it. |
Stop whining. It's been early for middle school since ’98. |
I like the early start times because there is plenty of time for my daughter to stay after school for programs she enjoys, come home study, and then get to practice without having to rush. It's been great. Yes, it sucks getting up early. So what. |
