It is what it is. Your expectations are too high for MCPS. Families will need to lottery into other schools. |
They should have chosen Einstein or Blair, clearly. |
It's basically impossible to lottery into Blair. Most of their out-of-bounds population is filled with magnet program kids. |
Then they choose another school. |
For example, Northwood. |
They can perform on the green like Shakespeare in the park. It will be awesome. |
That would be fun. |
I do not understand why one poster, or maybe two posters?, is so invested in insisting that Northwood doesn't need an auditorium while Northwood is at Woodward. Who benefits from the No Auditorium For Northwood While At Woodward position? |
There is a large central courtyard at Woodward which could be used in that way. |
I think people are trying to brainstorm alternative solutions. It would be great if there was an auditorium, but if there is not going to be one for a couple years, then what else can be done? |
Need, no, want, yes. |
It’s what, two years. Woodward is not ideal for many reasons, especially the distance. But, there are ways to make it work. We knew it was coming and purposely put it as a last choice as the distance was an issue if we had to go back and forth to school several times a day with after school stuff that does not start till later. |
Relative. Relative need. Do we need an Algebra curriculum? Yes. Do we need AP classes and IB programs? No, not technically. But we expect them and pay for them. Do we need adequate facilities to support a performing arts program? No, not technicaly, but again... Do we need bleachers for sports fields to support extracurriculars?... Painting the auditorium as a "want" as opposed to a relative "need" is disingenuous. It is much closer to the aspirational academic "needs" than to the extracurricular one. |
The "Don't use more of our tax money/budget -- it's not our kids who are affected" crowd. |
Even so, they still seem oddly overinvested in this one specific issue. |
