USC and Columbia Protests

Anonymous
Well, all the Ivy League schools want active students. Not students who sit on their butts all day. They want movers and shakers, they want leaders. They clearly have that in spades. Only issue is that the university interests are not aligned with the student interests. Rock meet boulder. Neither side is budging. Interesting sociological experiment. I cannot predict what will happen. But I feel like the Columbia president needs to resign. She has no one on her side. I’m not sure how she managed that but here we are. Arresting students was a tactical mistake on her part. Visuals are just terrible and she created massive sympathy for the students

You sound jealous.

Not at all. I'm a parent whose adult kids were raised to be responsible, honest, caring, and hard-working adults.

But do your kids care about the greater good? Do they care about fighting for a cause that they are passionate about? Do they want to change the country they live in?
History will judge these protesters. Hard for us to know in real time whether they are on the right side or wrong side of History

What is this obsession with “changing” the country? I think it’s pretty damn great as it is and I’m thankful to be here

Did you miss J6, Trump, homelessness, high crime rate, drug overdoses, mass shootings.....What suburban bubble do you live in?

I have mixed feelings about the protests but one could argue that the students are putting their education to work. They are trying to make change happen. Textbook studying is only good up to a certain point. Sometimes you learn more from real life in one day than you can learn from a textbook in one year.

I don't view protests as "real life." If you have that kind of free time, get a job and learn what real life is all about. These protests are being done by privileged kids at elite schools who think nothing of disturbing the learning and safety of other students.

Why can’t Columbia throw them a bone?
Just divest from arms manufacturers. I would support that. Divest from companies that focus on killing people

Students who study hard and maintain high averages, while participating in student activities or working a part-time job are not "sitting on their butts all day."

We are now on page 22 of this topic and
being repeatedly told that the problem is a 19 -year-old student instead of the most powerful entity on earth arming and protecting a nuclear power that is committing a genocide.

What a good little sheep you raised.

And I bet your kid is wearing a mask outdoors at protest harassing and threatening people while being coddled in the bosom of a progressive bubble.

Really brave.

And yet......that is not what these idiots are protesting.

And where will these kids be when it is time for us to go to war? They will
Not be in uniform that is for sure. Sitting is not brave.

Yes, yes it is. Gone are the days when Israel could steal land, kill with impunity and then claim to be the victim. The world is finally opening its eyes.

This country was founded on revolution and protests. I’m sure you’ve heard of free speech and the right to assemble, etc. You’re just mad because these students are bringing awareness to an issue that has been swept under the rug for far too long.

How quickly some people forget 10/7.

Remember, Hamas started the war. Israel is going to have to end it since Hamas has no interest in a ceasefire.
