As a group, Hispanics are extremely hard working -- no question. Long hours and often sending to parents back home in Mexico. Very admirable work ethic. |
In other words, all of the yammering you and your buddies do about how Black people have no disadvantages against poor White people is, on average, $12,000 wrong. That’s the difference between having a car payment and a paid off car. Or a paid for Associates vs a student loan. In other words, life changing money for many. |
I don't think you understand how averages work. You realize that many blacks are more wealthy than many whites? |
Ok but everything you just discussed was 60+ years ago. Black people have disproportionately served. I know that the popular talking point on the left is that white supremacists run the military, but it's a fact that black people have done more, proportionately, to serve our country than white people. |
If I recall, they directly said 'f-u' to GWB. They didn't write a song that went to number 1 describing their political feelings. |
(DP) That survey also says that the probability of receiving an inheritance at all for all people is between 2.4 and 11%, so this seems to be a lot of focus on a very small number of people who might actually receive an inheritance. It really should not be generalized to the full electorate. Also, if the 5% of wealthiest people were eliminated from the survey, or even just the 1%, the averages would be very different. |
I think PP's point is more about the GI Bill and how it helped many white families move out of poverty and into the middle class. https://americanexperience.si.edu/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/After-the-War-Blacks-and-the-GI-Bill.pdf |
That wasn't the OPs point. The OP said that in the south, working class whites go into the military or the trades while blacks go into hard labor. I know the soft-handed educated left likes to pretend the military is overrun by the KKK, but that whitewashes the truth that black people carry more than their fair share of military service. |
+1 They also didn't have ginger beards and ginger heads. |
Oh my gosh really???!?!?? And yet on average they are much less likely at any age to receive an inheritance than white people! It’s almost like laws from 50 years ago have an impact on…people now! |
Nobody said that in this thread. I don’t speak for “the left”. Yes, I know that the military is more diverse than any other institution in the country. I’m not disputing that. I know a lot of Blacks who have served, officers and enlisted, and most of them were middle-class and educated when they joined. But that is not what this thread is about. I was responding to the offensively idiotic statements questioning why there are still poor Black neighborhoods. My only point about the military was that historically, it was one way poor white boys escaped poverty and drudgery, and set up their families for a better future. Nothing like that was available for poor Black kids until relatively recently. |
Yes, and yet is is more than three times as likely you’ll receive an inheritance if you’re white. The most significant asset in middle class families is homes/home Equity. Guess who was legally barred from purchasing those appreciating homes? This isn’t rocket science. It’s ok to admit there are impacts of historical laws. |
He got called on his lying and ran off. Typical MAGA. |
You are being intentionally dense. Stop misstating what I said. I’m talking about 100 years of wealth creation and class mobility that was available to poor whites that was not available to poor Blacks. I didn’t say shit about white supremacists or the KKK in the military. You imagined that. I was applauding the military as a way to escape from poverty but pointing out that it was not available for Blacks until relatively recently. My point was not about the military. It is that poor Black neighborhoods and communities have always been hard to leave except to go to other poor Black neighborhoods. |

NP... this song is typical southern victim mentality.
Amazing how Cletus making $16 an hour at the feed plant somehow thinks he's personally footing the brunt of the bill through his taxes to pay for that imaginary vision of millions of the unwashed hordes of ghetto baby mamas and illegal aliens to have free big screen tvs, steak and lobster every night and a free place to live in luxury. Amazing that he hasn't realized that the only people his Republicans lower taxes for are for millionaires, billionaires and big companies. Amazing that he hasn't realized his "shit wages" are because his Republican friends want to keep wages low even as worker productivity and corporate profits keep increasing year after year. |
