U15 Player mom here. She has to decide between Renaissance Black, VAVA, and Metro South. Does anyone have the scoop? We are new to club this year, and this is pretty intense experience. Are we allowed to ask them questions or do we just smile and say thank you? |
DD just received an offer from Renaissance. Any input on the club/coaches? Is there a reason it is almost twice as expensive as others in the area? How can I tell how competitive it will be? TIA |
Has anyone been to the new Paramount practice facility? |
Definitely ask a lot of questions. You will be paying thousands of dollars and spending valuable weekend time traveling to tournaments. Be sure to find out if your DD could be part of the starting rotation or is considered a backup player with limited playing time. |
If there is no club offer, is it a good option to be a practice player? Or what else is out there if DD just wants to play and improve? U16 |
Definitely ask questions. VAVA 15s coach is nice and responsive and will answer questions. Given it is Tuesday ask a lot of questions and coaches will answer whatever they can because it is crunch time and if players don’t accept they need to scramble to see if alternates are still available. Ask questions to give you idea of what kind of rotation/playing they were thinking and your DDs place in that. Vava 15s vava coached 17-orange (2nd team) last year when they had 2 age groups but Vava had to shrink number of teams due to limited court space with Cassels facility closing down. Don’t know how teams are stacking up across the 15s for those clubs but definitely ask questions. |
Renaissance is a spin off from ECP. What level is your daughter? The only coach I know well who went with Renaissance is one of the U15 coaches and I like her very much. I can't say anything about the other level coaches. I did hear through the grapevine that there may be some financial issues at play, so that probably feeds into the high cost as they're trying to establish themselves. Also they practice at GDS which is expensive to rent. |
Hmmmm- just looked at their club fee versus similar level clubs and they seem to be at the lower level. Cheaper than VAVA, Louden elite, Vienna elite and the St James. WAY cheaper than VA juniors or paramount - but those are higher level clubs. Also looks like the fees include AAU nationals- as it is their “A” team. These fees are not included in some clubs- like paramount, but are included in some- like STJ navy teams. I believe metro fees seem low but have heard they do not include things like uniforms?? Essentially- take a close look at what all is included in the club fees and also try to compare to similar level clubs and A teams to A teams, B to B teams as the fees are different due to different tournaments and number of practices between A and B teams within all clubs. |
I suppose if you have't received an offer by now, it's pretty much a done deal. |
Wondering the same...Not even a "thanks for trying (we got your $50 tryout fee, sucka), here are other options (spend money on our clinics), good luck in your endeavors (come back and tryout again). I've checked my Junk email folder too. |
Ditto we are in same boat and have similar questions. DD got the Black offer last night for 15. We are confused and having trouble deciding. My DD played for another club last year in regional level and also has a couple other offers. |
These are good problems to have. Congrats to your DD. |
All the way in Ashburn? sounds good for the Loudon Co people. |
Not necessarily. CHRVA rules require that players be given until 10pm today to decide on their offers. So players with multiple offers who haven't decided yet will be turning down offers today and tomorrow so there could be more spots opening up. One thing that sometimes will happen is that a club with multiple teams in an age group won't get everyone they made offers to for the 1s team and they will move players up from the lower teams creating openings there. I would definitely keep an eye on club websites and social media over the next few days - there are likely still roster spots unfilled. |
The clubs my DD tried out for all said not to expect any "Sorry, no offer" emails. Only offers would be sent out/communicated. I get it though, given how many girls tried out, the chaos of making offers then having to be ready to jump if you get rejections and send out next round of offers. Clubs probably want to keep their options open until the last possible moment and best not to say no at all than to say no and then get desperate and have ruled anyone out for more rounds of try outs. |
