Nerve pain from cold sores

I have a really bad cold sore on my lip that is causing excruciating pain down my chin and in my lower gums. I haven't been able to sleep the past two nights because of it.

Does anybody know of an OTC treatment or other remedy for this pain??

I haven't had it that bad, but I'd call the doc in the morning. It can lead to lingering pain, post herpetic neuralgia. Mine usually goes away when the cold sore goes away, though.

There are various treatments for it, including Lyrica and small doses of antidepressants tha somehow get to the nerve pain.

Your doctor may. Google post-herpetic neuralgia. I had it years ago following shingles and there wasn't much, but I hear there is more to be done now. There are also antivirals to treat the cold sore, which might help.

Call your doc first thing n morning. Take antiviral herpes meds and also lyrical or neurontin for the nerve pain.

In addition to all those meds, stay out of the sun and ice it a few times a day. This has worked wonders for me!
