I have experience in foster care and substance abuse. I was thinking about just paying the fee to get my license there in DC.

CPS is pretty much always hiring. I'd look into Montgomery County and DC (CFSA is surprisingly decent given DC politics.) I'd steer clear of PG CPS, they are a mess and turnover is crazy.

Some of the contracted foster care agencies might have openings, but the pay is typically lower.

I don't have any experience with SA. Sorry.

I'd definitely get licensed in DC. There are a lot of agencies/hospitals/SA programs here.

What about a social worker seeking direct practice psychotherapy? Thoughts on where?

I'd look into agencies before hanging a shingle on your own. Check government websites, look at the hospitals, research agencies that provide therapy.

I see there are positions at DC Dept of MH and Washington Hospital Center doing therapy.
