Hello!
I'm a mom to be (expecting in May 2009) and would love to connect with other moms in my neighborhood. I'm in downtown Silver Spring. We are desperately trying to figure out childcare so any ideas in DTSS would be much appreciated! Thanks, K |
Congrats! We just had our first DS in August. I used to live right in DT SS, now I am a mile or so away but still inside the beltway SS. First, you can get on Silver Spring Moms listserv on yahoo, its very helpful.
We just put our DS in the Easter Seals daycare facility right in DT--its on Spring Street between Colesville and Georgia, right across from the post office. We really like it. Its pretty much the most expensive we saw, though. But its a brand new facility, great staff, and an intergenerational center, which means they have a senior center on site as well, and will have supervised activities between seniors and kids--singalongs, reading, etc. Other daycares we looked at were Silver Spring Presbyterian Church on University, which we also liked, and Quality Time which is on Georgia near the fire station, which we also put a deposit on. We tried to look at the Bright Horizons at NOAA, but they were very rude, unresponsive and basically the waiting list is like 2 years. If you are interested in chatting more or hearing more details, let me know and I can post my email address. Good luck! |
Yes, I'd love to talk more. Ifyou prefer you can send a private message. We did put our name on the waiting list for Easter Seals. I love that place! NOAA is hard to get into. If you're not a NOAA employee, a federal employee you can't get in. But I may have a possible in, it's just not ideal. Both are expensive, so I'm trying to find alternatives in DTSS with good quality. Would love to hear more about your experience with Quality Time.
Thanks, K |
Hi!
I'm an expectant first time mom due in April 2009. We should definitely chat more! I don't know how to do personal messages on here though. ![]() We've signed up for my university day care and the day care at the NIH where my husband works, but need to keep looking. I'll be home most of next year so it's not 100% on our radar yet, but we also know the waiting lists in the area so we probably should get moving. -Jane |
You might want to check out (google) TakomaPAKK-- they run a neighborhood listserv that was started for Takoma Park parents, but I see a fair amount of SS discussion (and they say they welcome SS parents). |
I think that the SS moms listserv is ssmoms2003@yahoo.com
It is great! It took me a few years before I got on it and I regret it. Really, really useful and supportive. Also, you should check out aparentinsilverspring.com This is a blog that has a list of daycares, also has lots of other information. |
it's http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ssmoms_2003/
and yeah, it rocks. |
