| Does anyone do this? I live in Petworth and work on the mall, so my options are going through town or using the MBT. I'm a little reluctant to use the MBT, as it would add 2 miles each way and there have been some scary incidents on the trail. Running through town seems like a better option, but I wonder if running through the downtown area (either near Metro Center or Gallery Place) would just be obnoxious. |

You are going to run to work everyday with your kid in a jogging stroller? How far is it? Will you run home too? Daycare is near your office?

We live 2.5 miles from our Arlington preschool and I metro downtown from there. I sometimes run my daughter to school, shower at the gym (next door to preschool) and then head to work from there. the only downside is that you have to cram all your shower stuff and work clothes into the stroller basket. That is hard to do. (recommendation: keep the towels, toiletries and flip-flops at work and just bring the clothes.)
I run around Gallery Place/Metro Center all the time without a stroller. it gets tough at busy times, kind of like a tourist/worker obstacle course, but you can probably manage it. (What would you do on rainy days?) |

OP here- I wasn't going to do it everyday, it just seems like it might be nice to do once a week or so. It would be 5 miles if I head through town. Daycare is in my building, so I would drop off my son and then shower at the gym here. I already have toiletries, etc. here, so that wouldn't be a problem.
I would either run home that day or leave the jogging stroller here overnight and run home the next day. The running home sounds much less pleasant to me, since it will be hotter and almost all uphill. I'm just trying to figure out if it is more of a pain than it is worth. I go back and forth, so I wanted to see if anyone else does this. |

OP, I live in Columbia Heights and work in Foggy Bottom, and I do this when the weather is nice, sometimes every day of the week in the spring/fall. I will say that the morning is very nice and the afternoon is usually *not* running because of the heat and the hills.
I go down 16th Street, but you could go down 14th or 11th. I've done both on solo runs. As for going through downtown with a stroller, it hasn't been that big of a deal in my experience. Go for it! |
| I do 3m roundtrip with the jogging stroller every day, although through a less busy area. As long as your child likes being in the stroller, most of the issues are similar to being a solo runner. I always have extra drinks/snacks/blanket in the stroller, as well as a weather shield and an umbrella. Crazy drivers are my biggest issues, so I do try to stay hyper aware and err on the side of caution. |
