LinkedIn- how to use it?

Would it be weird to reach out to alumni from my school regarding job opportunities on LinkedIn? These are people that I do not know, but I went to a fairly small like 2000 students liberal arts college.

not at all weird. i went to a much bigger school and do it all the time.

hell, i even contact mid-level managers (that I don't have any ties to or alumni connections) at ocmpanies/divisions i'm interested in to engage in a conversation regarding their organization and get great feedback/leads for jobs sometimes.
