Runners, please advise me about body glide

Anonymous
I've wanted a running skirt for a while, but wasn't sure it would work for me, and I'm kind of cheap so I didn't want to spend the money. This weekend I was at Costco and they had some addidas running skirts for about $20 so i bought one.

I tried to run with it this morning, but found that the little bike short things underneath rode up and weren't long enough. My upper inner thighs are a little flabby and I felt like they were rubbing together. I was still very close to home (only about .3 miles) before I could feel it starting to be a problem (didn't actually hurt yet--but I think if I went more than a mile or two , it would have) so I just returned home and took them off.

I've read about body glide, but it usually refers to marathon and "ultra" runners. I only run about 10-13 miles at the most, so that is not me. Would body glide be a solution that would help me with this running skirt (it actually looked REALLY cute on--and I don't usually feel "cute" in my running clothes--so I'd like to try to make this work!), or is the only solution to get something longer/won't ride up?

Thanks!

Try it and see - it's not very expensive. If it doesn't work for this purpose, you'll likely be able to use it for something else.

Some shorts are definitely more chafe-inducing than others. Frankly, if you're running 10-13 miles at a time, that is serious mileage and you're more likely to have chafing issues than a shorter-distance runner.

If you still have the chafing issues, wear the skirt for cross-training or walks to the park so it's not a waste of money.

I use it on many runs in the summer especially because of the chafing caused by sweat. I prefer Blue Steel but Body Glide is what they sell at most running stores.

I've had to abandon cute running shorts because the way they were cut was just too uncomfortable. You may have to just stick a fork in these.

Body Glide is da bomb. It helps chafing if you're walking 2 or 3mi, much less if you're running serious distances - and I do both on a regular basis.

I've found that occasionally I also get chafing along my arm rubbing against the seam of my sports bra or tank top. Again, body glide does wonders. Also helps against blisters if you put it on before your socks.

Can't get enough of the stuff.

Use BodyGlide liberally. For any run over 5 miles, I'll rub it on all my hot spots before I go out, just to be safe. But to be honest, when I'm wearing compression gear, I don't get hot spots.

OP, if the bike shorts part was riding up, maybe you bought a size too big? Try buying just a plain pair of long compression shorts, and put them underneath the running skirt pair. That might solve the problem, and you also can use the compression shorts with any other shorts in the future.

I'm a little worried that if you wipe on some BodyGlide under your compression shorts/skirt, and then it rides up, the compression part will have rubbed off your BodyGlide while it's riding up. It's weird that you have riding up -- that doesn't usually happen to me.

I have the same problem with too-short shorts riding up. They're the right size for me; I just have tubby tights that rub together and if the bottom elastic band is just where my thighs rub together, they ride up. The hems have to be well below where my thighs rub together, and really secure, to stay put.

As for Body Glide, I love the stuff! But for chafed inner thighs, I'd go with shorts that don't cause that problem instead.

Thanks. I bought size small--I think that was the smallest size they had, didn't really check for XS because usually a size small works. I think I will try body glide on a short run, then if that works well I will try for longer runs with it.

Thanks for everyone's feedback!

I saw those skorts and thought that the shorts underneath didn't appear to be the best. Check out Athleta skorts for a quality product.

I need body glide on anything over 5 miles, and in the summeri use it every time. I get a bra burn right under my boobs from my sports bra. Bodyglide makes a huge difference.

I really love how running skirts look, but really hate the shorts underneath -- doesn't seem to matter how much I spend, the shorts always ride up, and I'm not flabby at all I stick to running shorts and have never used body glide. No chafing here.
