I've always been surprised on DCUM that there could possibly be so many things to ask about sippy cups, but here I find myself with a question! Have done a quick search, but can't find what I'm looking for. I want a spill-proof cup that I can use to warm milk in the microwave. Preferably BPA free & dishwasher safe & hard spout.
Most of them say that microwaving is not recommended (due to hot spots) but I want one that is safe to microwave as far as the materials go (of course I shake the milk vigorously & leave for a while before giving to the children). Any suggestions ... ? Thanks. |

What's so hard about pouring milk from a mug(used to hold milk while in micro) into a sippy cup?
I've never seen any sippy that claims to be micro friendly. It's never a good idea to micro things in plastic(BPA free or not), it leaches.

Why do some plastics say microwave safe, then?
I'm trying to save on time & washing up. Anyone else? |

The rule is only to use plastics that say they are microwave safe in the microwave oven. For example, my gerber baby bowls do not have a microwave safe icon on the bottom - so it does not go in the microwave. It may have said it was OK on th packaging - but over time I forget so unless it is stamped on the item - my rule is it does not go.
In general, I use glass even if it means washing another bowl. And while we are talking about plastics, guidance is to make sure the food is cool before it goes into a plastic contrainer. At higher heats, plastic breaks down and leaches. Finally, items that are put in the dishwasher breakdown faster between the harsh detergents and the high heat. |
| just get the kid used to drinking it cold. |
| Starting to feel sorry I asked! |
| First Years Take & Toss are marked as microwave safe, but they are disposable. Not sure of non-disposable ones. |
| You don't have to throw the Take and Toss away - I have been using mine for over 2 years. |
| Thanks for the Take & Toss tips. That fits the bill! |
| i don't like microwaving food in any plastic. Even though it may not be considered unsafe now, it may be found to be unsafe in a couple years, like this BPA thing that just came out. |
| Thanks for your thoughts, but I was just looking for brands that fit my criteria. |
