| does this only happen to me. I bought applesauce 11 days ago. Ate about one serving out of the container and put it in the fridge, just went back and theres mold on the top!! UGH. why does applesauce seem to grow mold instantaneously. |
| What brand? |
| Did you double dip your spoon into something? For example, did you eat yogurt with the spoon then use it to scoop out applesauce)? |

7-10 days shelf life in the fridge |
|
That's why I buy the cups at the warehouse club instead of the jars.
|
| I know. I hate this. And like the PP, that's why I buy the single servings in the little plastic cups. Even though we do re-use the cups for things like paint at the easel, I still hate the waste of plastic. Can applesauce be frozen in single servings? Also, sometimes I make a little homemade in the microwave to avoid buying the big jar or using the little plastic cups. |
| Probably organic |
| It goes bad fast. I'd eat it in a couple of days, tops. |
11 days? Are you kidding? Fresh food should only last 3-10 days even refrigerated. Even if it didn't have mold in it, I would toss it, because it's no longer fresh and suspect. Animal and vegetable matter decomposes after several days. It's supposed to. If you want something to last longer than that, then you need to get a brand will preservatives in it. If not, get the single serve cups as others suggest. We use the single-serve cups. |
| I picked up some cups of applesauce off the store shelf a few years ago. Before I put it in my cart I noticed there was mold in it. It was Motts. Perhaps it was sealed wrong. Gross. |
| I would assume it has preservatives. As it can sit on the shelf forever at the store |
| I buy the big jars of applesauce but freeze it in smaller portions. Usually divide it in 3, and put 1/3 in each of two ziploc baggies to freeze, and leave the remaining 1/3 in the fridge to eat. |
What a great idea. Never thought to freeze applesauce. Mott's always gets moldy- we end up throwing out a ton of applesauce so I just stopped buying it and started making my own to serve when we eat pork chops. More work, but so delicious! |
| At my kids' preschool we have to provide snack several times a year. I hate the wastefulness of single serve applesauce so would provide jarred applesauce on occasion. Only issue is that they would give me back the remainder. So, I started making applesauce bread. Not bad and plenty moist. |
