Ceiling light fixture for little girls room?

Anonymous
The secondary bedrooms in our new house do not have ceiling light fixtures (WTH? Totally did not notice this until moving in.) so we are having them installed. 1 in each of our two daughters' rooms and 1 in our guest/craft room. We cannot decide/agree on what to install.

My husband wants ceiling fans. I don't.

One option for the girls is the Mia Chandelier, but my husband thinks its over the top, and I can't decide if I agree or not.

Another option is the Maskros pendant from Ikea. I've seen these in person and they look great.

We could just do a brushed nickel flush mount, like this:
http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/202217494?productId=202217494&storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&MERCH=REC%2d%5f%2dproduct%2d1%2d%5f%2d202064742%2d%5f%2d202217494%2d%5f%2dN#.UbtobpjucS4

or this semi-flush:

Please help! We are terrible with decisions and we need to pick the lights up by next week when the electrician comes!

OP, meant to add that our girls are 2 and 5 currently, but we'd like the lights to "grow with them" and the ceilings are standard 8 feet.

one compromise might be this cool modern white ceiling fan and light.

http://www.amazon.com/Minka-Aire-F518-WH-44-inch-Concept-Ceiling/dp/B001BQC5SM

I have it in our master bedroom and it's awesome and quiet.

I have the maskros pendant in our dining room and while I always get compliments on it, it doesn't give off much light. (I think it is max a 40 w bulb??)

not to give you even more choices, but this is an awesome post for lighting: http://makingitlovely.com/2012/04/18/the-lighting-guide-how-to-put-it-all-together/

Do secondary bathrooms really need a ceiling fixture? I'm thinking a room that's 8'X5' would do just fine with the over-the-mirror fixture.

Look at www.rosenberryrooms.com. They have a lot of nice children's lights.

I like the semi-flush one the best and it will definitely grow with them. (The chandeliers will collect more dust and be harder to clean.)

Do you have the rooms with lights but no overhead fixtures?!?!?! That's what the house we just bought has and I totally didn't notice it until after we signed on the dotted line. How much was your electrician? I have five bedrooms to do this to. Ugh.

Pp here, I forgot to add that I vote PBK. The girls are small for such a short time- let them have the fun chandelier. I do not like the brushed nickel flush mount- too blah- every flipping show uses those.

Why don't you want a ceiling fan?

We have the Mia from PBK in DD's nursery. Love it and get lots of compliments (including the electrician . The room is decent-size and has high ceilings.

The others you posted seem fairly modern, so I'd choose based on the rest of the decor.

OP here. I can't find any that I like design-wise. I feel like they look instantly dated. I am not opposed to them in theory, just really can't find any I like, and if I do like them, they are $300. And I STILL don't like it that much.

If I did a ceiling fan in each girls' room, would I do all white? Their ceiling and trims are white, but one DD has white furniture and the other has brown.

Would something like this look okay? http://www.homedepot.com/p/Hunter-Claremont-52-in-White-Ceiling-Fan-21831/203413148#specifications

I just don't like them much...

You might be able to find girly girl glass shades that would work with a normal light fixture, and then you could put the normal glass shade back on when they're older.

Our daughter has something like this:

http://www.lampsplus.com/products/White-Flower-Ceiling-Fan-Light-Kit__K9774.html

It doesn't show it with the fans on it, but her fans have flowers on them. It's really cute. There are all kinds of girly modern looking ceiling fans.

A chandelier would be cute also, but I find that I sleep so much better with a ceiling fan and wanted to have that options for DD.

I hate the flush mount and am not crazy about the semi-flush.

I think the chandelier is adorable and that would be my pick.

I'd vote ceiling fans for practicality; we have them in all our bedrooms and they just kind of blend in. And they help a lot in the summer. But if you really don't want that, I'd do the Ikea pendant. I love it and it's not as generic as the PBK one.
