Private & Independent Schools
i saw a posting on this before but i am still concerned. i love nps but seriously and considering not applying there b/c i am worried about those antennas so close. thoughts?
This is not an issue. Not only is the area home to NPS, but to the Department of Homeland Security, just next door to the studios. This is seriously not an issue.
I'm missing the logic here--what does the presence of DHS have to do with the safety of the antennas? If you're saying DHS wouldn't possibly risk its employees' health, I'm not so sure!
Power lines could be a concern, but antennas?
I've been in DC area independent schools for a really long time, both as a parent and professional. I've never heard of NPS kids coming down with cancer or anything like that. I don't think it's an issue.

Yes, I know what you mean about the presence of the DHS -- it's truly comforting. After all, our Federal Government has absolutely NO TRACK RECORD WHATSOEVER of putting their own people in harm's way, or, generally, being inept, moribund, and clueless.
All broadcast towers emit truckloads of electromagnetic radiation -- that's how they send, receive and repeat singnals -- for radio, TV, cellphones, Blackberries, pagers, data feeds, etc. The idea is they're high enough in the air that the radiation dissipates and doesn't affect living things. Power lines seem to produce more worry, as they're lower to the ground and, thus, people. The towers are probably not an issue -- people are exposed to low-dose radiation all the time -- but it's not because the DHS is there... |
Does anyone have news about the NPS waitlist for this year? We are waitlisted and hoping for a spot.
the waitlist is glowing - not growing!
