Replacing Kitchen counter

Anonymous
Our kitchen cabinets and appliances are in good shape but the counter, sink and tile above the sink are awful. I would like to replace the counters with granite. I dreading the exercise of getting 2-3 quotes, and all the sales pressure associated with an expensive home project. For those who replaced their counter tops, sink and tiles above the sink, would appreciate to hear what it cost you to do this.

we just got a quote for the countertops in our kitchen. we have one long piece (this is the side with the sink) that is 102 inches, and then 2 small pieces that are 18 inches long by 25 inches deep.
our kitchen is tiny, obviously.

was quoted 2400 for granite + install from one place. we are waiting on quotes from others.

If you know your countertop square footage, it's easy enough to go to Home Depot or Lowes and look at the cost per sq. ft. of samples you like and do the rough estimate yourself. You don't even have to talk to an associate. It seems like all the pricing includes installation.

Now if your square footage will require more than one slab it may end up costing you a bit more than the calculation based on square footage alone.

We're looking at quartz, and the per-sq-ft prices have been pretty consistent whether we look at Home Depot/Lowes, or independent fabricators.

http://www.homewyse.com/ has decent estimate calculators for a variety of home projects.
