DD is 4. She's very picky about toothpaste and has decided that her colgate Dora berry flavor just will not do. Her older brother uses Crest Kids, which she also dislikes. Same with Tom's of Maine kids' strawberry. She does like the baby toothpaste without fluoride in either the Thomas or Pony varieties, but I worry about the lack of fluoride.
Which toothpastes have your picky kids found to be mild enough? |
The only one my six year old will use is Colgate Sponge Bob. He thinks everything else is "too spicy." Anything with a hint of mint kills him. He freaked about going to the dentist last week. Not because of sharp or noisy instruments, but because he loathes their toothpaste.
I hate Colgate. But it's better than nothing. |
Oh, daggit, its the same flavor as Dora. Sorry. |
fluoride's a poison, btw. |
Our son was picky, then our dentist told us that we has to use a specific toothpaste due to his crappy teeth. So we forced him. Honestly, it didn't take long for him to adjust. You do have to rid your house of the sugary kids toothpastes. |
We've done the complete tasting menu of toothpaste -- same deal as OP -- and Dd has finally made peace with Crest grape. (Ours has Elmo on it, but that's not a factor for her.) |
Funny this is the only one my son will use (grape flavor). If we can't find the grape flavor, I use the "baby" toothpaste. Maybe I'm kidding myself, but better to be brushing longer than not... |
My DD is on the autism spectrum and would gag on anything minty, finally we found Tom's Natural Strawberry Toothpaste. It's kind of pricey, and usually only places like Trader Joes carries it. |
I'd bring her to the drugstore and let her pick out a flavor that sounds good to her. Maybe get a couple. My picky DD would do kids colgate strawberry after rejecting dora, mint, and the bubble gum flavors. |
Crest Sparkle Fun |
None for my picky one. We go for the least of the bad which usually involves Dora or Princesses on the label and only use toothpaste once a day. The other brushing(s) are with water only. Dentist recommended this and also told us that you can skip toothpaste and dip the brush in a fluoride mouthwash. Since I can get through once a day we haven't gone this route. |
I have one super picky about toothpaste and the Tom's Orange/Mango is the only one he will use. It is still a struggle to get him to let me brush his teeth but at least he doesn't scream with this flavor. |
My kid (4) does not like Mint. The dentist gave us a free sample of Colgate Kids Bubble Mint and she spit it out. She likes Tom's of Maine Strawberry. |
Could you just use baking soda? I mean, it tastes weird, but it's not minty or fruity, obviously.
My daughter (who rejected several other varieties, including a sparkle one and Tom's strawberry) likes the kids aquafresh. It's minty, but we take off the whole label, and seeing the different color stripes inside pleases her. Kids are weird. |
Op here. Thanks, we will try crest grape! And maybe just baking soda. The Tom's strawberry and sparkle fun have all been rejected.
Im honestly wondering if her issues are more about control than anything else, but I'll give it a try. |
