What's excessive for time off? I took a 1 week vacation 2 weeks ago but would now like to take 2 days off plus another day at the end of the month does that seem excessive?

Totally depends on your job!
If it's a busy time and/or you are the only person who can do what you do and/or you are part of a team of people and your absence creates more work for them... then taking 8 days in one month is probably excessive. If it's a slow time and other people are not counting on you, then it's not unreasonable. Also - if people had advance notice for your week off but now you are springing 3 more days on them, that may not sit so well either... |
My view on vacation is that I have earned it so, as long as I am not leaving anyone in the lurch and work undone, I take it.
Depends. I take 3 weeks off at Christmas.
Is a month a lot if you earned it and haven't taken any vacation in the last few years? And no one is depending on you and your absence does not create more work for anyone else.
Are you new? Are you on a leave restriction? Are you taking lots of other time off -- sick leave, doctors appts, personal time? What is the work context? Is the end of the month crunch time? What is your work load? Is the summer a slow time? Do other people do this? What is your leave balance -- do you have a lot of hours of leave in the bank? Do you have a work hours target and have you met it? What was your last appraisal?
what is your company policy? most require vacation notice 2 weeks in advance and with manager approval - so if you are asking your manager and have given enough notice you should be fine.
