Latin --admissions

Can anyone please give me a general sense of Latin admissions/wait list trends for the entry year, 5th, over the past couple of years?

Per the charter board, the numbers waiting on each grade at Latin (as of July 31st) are

5th (146)
6th (179)
7th (87)
8th (69)
9th (358)

Wow, I am truly surprised by the 9th grade waitlist numbers.

My kid is starting Latin for 5th grade. I find these numbers heartbreaking-- especially 9th grade. So demoralizing! all those kids that want to get in and can't. there is such a demand that needs to be met . . . If those kids can't get into Latin, where can they go that is comparable?

BASIS, but they also have a waitlist.

This city needs more good options like that.

We turned down a spot for 5th and we were somewhere around 40 on the waitlist.

I think 5th will go through most of their waitlist. I think a lot of ppl already get into a school (like BASIS or decide to stay at their current school for 5th), but don't bother removing their name from the waitlist. Don't think it will be the same for the other grades, their WLs may not move that much.

You should go to the SWW info meeting this fall. It was so, so sad. So many desperate parents trying to get a decent education for their children. Now that Wilson no longer accepts OOB students (and will probably me majority white in the next 10 years), I feel for parents who are just trying to help their kid.
