| My siblings and I are thinking of setting up an LLC. We have a draft, but really need a competent lawyer to look it over. It will be established according to Illinois laws, so I assume the best thing is to have an Ill. lawyer look it over. But my question is slightly different: some sibling would like me to have it reviewed, but I wonder if the lawyers in this area get a premium for, well, just being in this area. Other siblings live outside major metropolitan areas and one in a Florida city (not Palm Beach!). Anybody have a sense of whether I'm right about a premium for DC-area lawyers, and what that premium might be? |

| Legalzoom.com is your friend. Can even do IL. |
| You want an IL licensed lawyer. I am a BIGLAW partner. My hourly rate is $750. See if you can find a contact who has a Chicago office and if they have an associate in corporate who can do it. |
BIGLAW in all caps?
|
Why have an associate do it? Hire a small firm and have a skilled partner review it. You don't need an Illinois lawyer do it. Just a competent lawyer. |
|
You should have an IL lawyer review it.
You definitely do NOT need "BIGLAW" to do this. There's no premium per se for DC lawyers, but there will be a Biglaw premium anywhere you go. I pay quality partners at non Biglaw firms $300-500 for what Blglaw will charge 50-100% more for. |
| I would get someone from Chicago in Biglaw to do it. |

I'm a lawyer and agree 100%. And it doesn't make sense to have anyone other than an Illinois lawyer review it. |
+1 from a biglaw lawyer. You do not need a biglaw lawyer but you should get an Illinois lawyer. |

So what's on the Illinois bar that makes an Illinois lawyer any better than a DC corporate lawyer? The majority of corporate work done in DC is for corps out of DC.
If the OP is local why make him or her deal with a firm in Illinois? Not a challenge - just curious to hear what there is to the other view of why geography matters. |
Np here. Everyone is recommending an IL lawyer because the LLC is created under Illinois law. |
Sorry but for some reason my autocorrect does it in all caps and I am too lazy to go back and undo it |
BC something like an LLP is very state specific and any lawyer worth their hourly rate would insist on having an IL licensed and EXPERIENCED corporate lawyer work on the matter. |
Most corporations are Delaware corps. And LLC is a limited liability company. |
