Where can I find a truthful, accurate explanation of Obama's stance on gun control? My DH wants to buy a new gun because he thinks Obama will ban them. Ridiculous. I think McCain is more likely to ban abortion than Obama is to ban guns but I need the proof. I'm going to google and research but help, any info is appreciated. |
The president cannot ban guns because the president does not make laws. Your DH may want to pick up a copy of the constitution. More importantly, the Supreme Court has just ruled pretty definitively that the 2nd Amendment provides for an individual right to own a gun. |
But come on, Jeff, with House, Senate and White House controlled by the Democrats, perhaps gun control does have a fighting chance. I sure hope so; even though I really admire McCain, I've never agreed with the Republicans on this issue. |
The Supreme Court ruled this year to protect the individual's right to keep and bear arms. This was a landmark decision, because the Court had never before directly addressed whether the 2nd Amendment was an individual right or not. Who wrote the opinion? Justice Scalia.
So gun ownership for law-abiding citizens is no longer at risk unless you think America is ready to amend the Constitution to revise or remove the 2nd Amendment. In response, Obama affirmed the "Individual Right to Bear Arms" and wants commonsense laws to prevent senseless deaths and to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, which is permitted under Scalia's opinion. Here is a video of him speaking to Fox News. http://www.breitbart.tv/html/120253.html |
That's too bad. Here's an area where I really agree with the Europeans. No one needs a gun except the police, period. |
There's a HUGE difference between no one needing a gun and no one having a gun. Until you convince burglars, muggers, rapists, and murders to live by your rules, more people than the police need guns. I'm really tired of the gun violence in this country, and some of the worst of it has been right here in DC, proving that gun bans do nothing to prevent people who are bound and determined to do bad from having guns. |
If Gun Control is ever to have a chance - Obama's term should provide it. He has a VP who thinks a Beretta is a shotgun. Personally, I own a gun, carry one in the course of my profession, and would feel much more comfortable if more law abiding citizens carried them.

You know who else thinks a Beretta is a shotgun? Beretta. I guess you've been punked by Biden, huh? ![]() |
The AL391 is a competition shotgun, which means it doesn't even have a standard grip, it is designed to be fired from a mounting stand. Further, it is a semi-automatic, which is not at all what people think of when they think shotgun.
Biden didn't know what he was talking about, he is not a gun enthusiast, not a gun owner, and we resented it when he tried to pretend that he was at home with the good old boys. I would have admired him more if he had been himself instead of trying to play to the crowd and talking about something he knew nothing about. |
As compared with Mitt Romney, who enjoys using guns to hunt "varmints, if you will." Or Hillary Clinton, who magically found childhood memories from every state she wanted to win in the primaries. Or George W. Bush, who bought the ranch in Crawford specifically for the 2000 election, so that he could seem folksy. Strangely enough, many people who aspire to run for public office don't have much use for guns, or ranches, and don't come from every state in the union, but everyone needs to seem like they give a rat's tushy about them to get elected. Obama not only can't take your guns away-- he'd be president, most of the Dems in Congress oppose gun control, and the U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that outright gun bans are unconstitutional. Obama will, however, require every American to enter into a gay marriage and have an abortion. Men may simulate having abortions by donating blood to ACORN. With permission from your local office of the New World Order, you may substitute a sex-change operation for a same-sex marriage, but only if you prove that you're too unpleasant to marry anyone at all. |
Uhh, didn't you get the memo? You were supposed to wait until tomorrow night to disclose this. Drudge will be putting this up any minute now (with the siren no less). Plus, you forgot to mention his plan to institute Sharia and change the currency to say "In Allah we Trust". |
OK. Wait... If I am unpleasant, do I get the sex-change first or have the abortion and then do the sex change? And is the sex change instead of the gay marriage? Because I might be unpleasant after the sex change. Yes, I will definitely be unpleasant after the sex change. "Anyone else in the same boat?" |
