I made a will 6 years ago and named a friend who just passed away as executor. At that point I had gone to a lawyer who charged a lot of money to do the will. I do not want to go back to her. How do I change the name? Is it necessary to have the will done by a lawyer r can I just do a simple one in line. I am a single mom so am concerned this is done right but also don't need to go overboard.

You might try calling your former lawyer and just asking how much it would be to change the executor?

They might not even charge for this. You should name an alternate while you're at it. You expensive lawyer should have had you do that in the first place. Circumstances less than death can prevent an executor from performing.
