If you have your own business, what do you do?

Anonymous
A few additional questions:

Did you quit work to start it or do it on the side until things picked up and then quit?
How much do you make and how long did it take for you to get there?
If you worked before starting, what was your salary?

I am considering doing this and want to know how others have approached this and how it is working out. I currently earn just over $200k but find my job, while VERY secure extremely unsatisfying. I am a little scared to give up what is essentially a job for life with good pay but I am so unhappy. I feel I am running out of time to start again. My husband has his own business and does okay though his income fluctuates somewhat ($250k-500k). We have about 10 years in savings (excluding pensions)as well as a few investment properties with rental income so we will not be destitute if it takes some time for me to get things going. We have about 10 years left on our mortgage and 3 kids in private schools.

Thanks for your input

You are in as good of a position of anyone I've ever seen to go out and start something on your own with that much savings and your husband's income. You are lucky. Take that luck and go for it.

It seems that you are trying to flaunt your richness and anyone at those income levels would consult a professional not a messageboard.

What is your job currently? Is the business related to your current profession?

This reminds me of thread where the woman's spouse made $500k and she wanted to know if she could afford to be a stay at home mom. Seriously?

Didn't you ask this question about a week or two ago? I remember responding to it then.
