New registration and home schools

We are considering a move to Montgomery County this summer or next summer, before DD goes to kindergarten. In our current area, registration for K fills up in the spring with the better schools and if you move to the neghborhood in the summer your child might be placed at a non-neighborhood school because of space reasons. Does this happen in any Montgomery County areas? Do we have to move this summer, so that we are in our house for spring registration, or can we wait until the summer she is entering K?

No, that does not happen in Montgomery County. Your child has to attend the school assigned to the home, unless you go through a transfer request and have it approved (which is not that easy). Move when you want to; there are kids moving in and out of the schools throughout the entire school year.

OP, don't worry about getting into your home school. That is guaranteed. You need to read this thread to see just how difficult it can be to go anywhere other than your home school in MCPS:
