I know I could look up what the medical community suggests but I'm looking for the eye of the beholder opinion. So, 5'3 female, 40 years old, white. My natural shape is like an exaggerated hour glass, waist is usually atleast 12 inches smaller than hips, breast size is D or DD. I have broader shoulders from decades of swimming. I hold my weight really well, very tight & muscular.
In my 20's I was 102-112, not aiming to get that low. Okay, I will say it, I'm 169 now (I know gasp, horror) but I don't look it, even doctors say that. I have the kind of body that black guys of any age & old white guys love. I don't jiggle, no cellulite, just a little bit of a loose stomach but only below the belly button. So, tell me if you are male or female and what you think my goal weight should be. If you are just going to post that I am fat & must be delusion, save yourself the trouble. |
| No one can tell without a picture. Snap a picture of your body, and crop your head out of it. |
| 155 to165lbs |
| It all depends. It depends on your frame and your muscles. I am 5'9" and weigh what you weigh. I am muscular and large frame (my fingers just barely meet when I put them around my wrists). I generally am at my best (feel best) when I weigh 150 lbs. This question is best answered by your doctor. |
| I would get a body fat percentage test and aim for 25%. Also, look to other non-scale indicators. Are you fit? Strong? How is your cholesterol & blood sugar? Bone density? If I were you (and I basically am / was lol) I would try to lose 20-25# while keeping an eye on those other indicators. |
Not OP but how do you get a body fat % test? |
| IMO 140#s |
| Based on your description, I think you would look good at 140, really good at 135. |
|
Agree with 12:28 - I would probably aim for 140 lbs and stop before you get to that point if you love the way you look.
I've always done the "100 lbs for the first 5 feet and then 5 lbs for each inch above that" rule (so my ideal weight at 5'8" would be 140), but you sound curvier, so 115 would probably be too skinny for you. |
Same here, but I think that rule is only for the banana shaped bodies. I'm 12:28 5'9" and 140#s, but I have a very long and lean shape, so 140 is perfect for me. However, given the OPs description of herself, even though I have quite a few inches on her, I think she would look good at the same weight due to her shape. |
| I have a similar body type but taller - 5'7. I look best about 150 (far from it now but pregnant - hope to get back there). I'd say 135-140 for you. |
| Ideally 120. 125-130 would be OK. If you were 102-112 in your 20's, then let's say 110 is your fit weight. It's likely that all of your weight gain beyond 110 lbs is fat. |
| General concensus seems to be 135. So I'll try for that and see what I think. If I get really brave I'll post a before and after pic. |

I am 5'3, 41, but very petite and fit, I weigh 120. Comsidering you are way more curvier and muscular and have a very different body type 135 sounds good to me.
Good luck!! |
| I'm a half-inch shorter, 38yo, slightly less of an hourglass (9-11 inches between bust/hips and waist), medium build, fairly muscular. I weigh about 142 and ideally would be in the 130-135 range. I think 135 sounds about right for you. |
