I am hosting a two pm baby shower for a friend. Given the timing, I dont think I need to serve a full meal, but I would like to provide some finger sandwiches and desserts. I want food that can be prepared entirely ahead of time. Maybe something using those frozen mini tart shells for dessert, since those seem easy and I'm not much of a cook. Anyone have any ideas and specific instructions or recipes? Again, I'm not much of a cook...be detailed! Thanks.

Trader Joes has a nice selection of frozen appetizers. You can always toss together a fruit and cheese plate and maybe a green salad.
Depending on the number of people you can always pick up a nice cake and/or mini cupcakes. |
Tea sandwiches: butter and cucumber, egg salad, tomato. Quiche -- joy of cooking has an easy recipe. Cheese platter with nice variety of crackers. Brownies cut into small pieces. Sorbet.
I hosted a baby shower at the same time. I had finger food and dips-- veg tray with dip, fruit tray with dip, hummus and pita chips, mini quiche, and some crescent roll appetizers that had chicken in them. Ordered a cake for dessert. It was all easy and there was plenty of food for that time of day.
Also meatballs in a crockpot is easy and always tasty (even in the summer). Costco sells delicious frozen italian meatballs, heat them with tomato sauce and you will be set.
