obama's tax calculator site

I am a Democrat and am tired of the rhetoric where people who worked hard are NOT considered workers. If you and your spouse put yourselves through college and grad school, attended public schools, came from white or blue collar families, he is insulting.

Thanks for the link to the tax calculator site, but I don't completely understand your post? Who is insulting to you? Do you mean Obama or McCain? I assume McCain? I am not being snarky, just wondering.

OP here. Obama is insulting. I will not donate to charities or continue with current levels of donations to schools. That money plus more will now go to taxes.

Ummm, Obama is not considering getting rid of 501(c)(3) status for charities, churches, or schools.

Echo pp that the insult is not apparent to me.

And I'm in a 2-lawyer household and would still get a tax break. Doesn't insult me in the least!

What money will go to taxes? No one has been elected yet, no legislation has been passed. What are you upset about? Just because Obama may be elected does not mean his tax ideas will pass and become law. Please get a grip. Really, do you think the day he is sworn in someone will come take money from you? No, it does not work that way.

What a pleasant spin you all put on Obama's tax ideas. "It won't affect you ... or maybe it won't even happen." I agree with OP ... class warfare is distasteful. Those terrible, awful rich households should pay more. Well, perhaps they should but let's not forget that they already do pay more. And many of them worked very hard to achieve their wealth and contribute generously to many good and useful causes. So requiring them to pay more in taxes may reduce their ability to donate to causes they currently support. The more accurate truth is that all of us, not just the top 2 percent, need to pony up more money for things we feel are important. But not necessarily via the inefficient, wasteful federal government.

So here is the truth. We live in an expensive area. We have a modest mortgage (400K) , 1 income and no car payments, no credit card debt. We are maxing out our 401(k), saving for college and we have about 70K in the bank. We are making it each month with a little left over - we could easily cut more corners but we don't go out to eat and aren't big spenders on stuff (no flat screen tv etc) If I go back to work we will hit the 250K mark and our taxes will go up. We pay out the wazoo in taxes so how we can be expected to pay more? I am an Obama supporter but enough already! I know we are luck, but I still feel like we are middle class.

Oh and no stimulus check although my unemployed brother and 90 year old grandmother both got one. At least give us the refund if we are paying so much.

And just why wouldn't they pass if there is a Democratic majority in the House and Senate? If this is the sales pitch then I guess the reality could be worse. One acquiantance told me that her children might face class sizes of 35 in public school while other public schools have less than 15 plus other programs. And yes- swearing in Obama will result in domino effects.

What bugs me about the spin that Obama is "spreading" the richest people's wealth to others is that all he plans to do is let Bush's handout to those very same people== a very expensive handout that McCain opposed and voted against-- expire, as it is scheduled to. What he's saying is, that bad idea that didn't work, and didn't trickle down, shouldn't be extended just because the people whom it benefitted really liked it. The idea that once Bush passes a tax cut, it becomes an inalienable right for the beneficiaries is ludicrous. I wish that Obama had explained it better. Bush's tax policies were a serious redistribution. Fixing them requires swinging the pendulum back where it belongs.

Nothing to do with rich people getting screwed to serve less rich people. Everything to do with ending the Bush kleptocracy.

I think this is the same troll who puts up other posts, "I am undecided" I am trying to figure out who caused the housing mess" and recently put up some things in the "Cory the Driller" site.

No point in arguing with him.

hey wait a minute- i am the one who put up the question trying to figure out whose policies caused the mortgage crisis and I'm not a troll! really! I can't believe I got called that for asking the question... I just wanted to know b/c most of what I can find are conservative blogs that blame it on the Democrats. I'm a democrat for Obama, and wanted to hear from both sides on the issue. Seriously.

OK sorry

Interesting that someone would think that there is only one person expressing half-way Republican views on this website.... while we are the minority, I can assure you that most of us are earnest.

OK, I am one of those terrible rich households that will be taxed more under Obama than McCain..though since the AMT also hits us McCain is probably not going to give me too much relief. We work incredibly hard and I welcome the chance to see my money not spin down the drain being redistributed to big businesses that DO NOT put it back into the economy. Big business has been taking these tax breaks (which was my money) for the past 8 years and gambling it on risky ventures to increase their profits and investing overseas. It doesn't help me stay rich for the entire economy to tank out thanks to what they did. I would much rather see my taxes go toward programs that build back the economy which is the middle class. Guess what..the majority of the tax revenue comes from the middle working class not you and I, and when they all lose their jobs either the deficit goes up or you and I pay more anyway.

I welcome the chance to see my money spent on education that will improve the economy and the country not wasted on a war that a strategic mistakes based on lies to the American public (remember those weapons of mass destruction). The rich need to realize that its hard to stay rich for long if everyone else is losing all their money. You, and everyone else, will do better in the long run with a stable economy and low unemployment. Look at your investment portfolio. Where were you at after 8 years of Clinton and where are you now after 8 years with Bush? If you want to vote based on your pocketbook, think carefully.

The only thing I can figure out is that OP didn't read closely that the tax break is going to 95% of the workers. Doesn't mean she isn't a worker -- it means that she is in the 5% of workers who aren't getting a tax break.

Now if you're insulted that you're not getting a tax break at all, that's a different matter (and that I understand) but I don't think the site says anything about not considering you a worker. That puzzles me.
