School enrollment

So, is school enrollment solely based on address? If you are zoned for one school is there any way to get your child enrolled in another PG County school?

Our neighborhood in Laurel is split, about 1/3 of the neighborhood is zoned for Bond Mill and about 2/3 is zoned for Vansville Elementary in Beltsville. We live in the portion zoned for Vansville. Has anyone had any success in enrolling their child in a different school? I've spoken to neighbors in the other part of the neighborhood who are happy with their kids in Bond MIll and if there was any way to get my kids there, I think we'd be happier. Fortunately I have some time, my children will not be going to grade school for another couple of years.

You can apply for a student transfer.

If you scroll to the bottom there is an attachment that shows the schools with availability to accept transfers. I would imagine it changes every year based on enrollment.

Thank you! This is very helpful. Although Bond Mill is not listed, we do have a couple of years to go and it's helpful to know that this is an option.

if your child care is in another school area, that is sometimes approved. Someone I know who did that successfully had it approved directly by the principal in late summer once she had an idea of her enrollment numbers for fall. Bond Mill is so popular it might be hard.

I have heard of the child care option...we have family who provide care for my kids while we work and they live near a better rated school and I have considered that.
