how did you find your independent life insurance agent? Deciding how much we need?

Now that we have a kid (DS is 1 yo) - we want to get term life insurance in case something happens to us. How did you find your local independent life insurance agent? I'm not sure where to start and friends/neighbors haven't been helpful.

Also - how do you decide how much you need? DH and I make about the same amount, we plan to have another kid within the next few years.

We used this guy-- I thought he was good in terms of figuring out what was a good company for us for term insurance (minor health issues that some companies cared about and others didn't). http://wallethub.com/profile/13694890i/

There are a lot of calculators out there that will help you figure out what kind of insurance you need, but the numbers you get are all over the place. In the end we went with about 7x salary, but it was driven as much by what we thought was a reasonable amount to spend as by how much we thought we'd need. We also got a long enough term so that the youngest would be out of college.
