Medical bills and pre-retirement TSP or 529 withdrawal

My spouse has been diagnosed with Lou Gerhig's disease. He is 50. We need money for expenses. Are there medical emergency exceptions for the typical penalties if you withdraw from the Thrift Savings Plan or the Maryland 529 Plans? Thanks.

I'm so sorry, OP. Some penalties still apply - typically there are fewer penalties for withdrawals from a 529 but you will want to look at the literature of your specific plan. Look up hardship withdrawals. Good luck to you both.
