Hi:
I had a weird experience while driving yesterday. I was in the car with my husband and child on P street near Rose Park and we stopped for a group of 2.5- 3 year olds to cross the road on a rope line with I assume to be their teachers, a man and a woman. The children of course were slow as all little ones will be and right in front of us without a word to the children the man pushed several of them. I found this very disturbing. I am a former teacher and would never do this. My husband was also shocked to see this. It was not a gentle on the shoulder hurry across, with a smile or anything it was a push! I'd like to call some one but don't know what shcool they were from. P St. Kids is about a block away. Does anyone have any intel? They were holding on to a blue and white rope and I assume they were going to the park. |
Sounds like Pst kids, as they are the only local pre-school with a male teacher |
definitely P street kids |
has anyone follow up with this as it seems very severe. |
Just send them a copy of this thread, also DC child welfare should know. |
Was the male teacher wearing glasses? |
He was wearing sunglasses and had sandy blonde hair. The female teacher had pretty long dark wavy hair and she was wearing high-heeled boots. I have discussed this further with my husband who also saw the incident and I will be following up tomorrow. Thanks for the in-put. I just can't get this one out of my head. |
Certainly Pst Kids |
Oh my goodness, this is a disturbing story. OP would you please provide an update? |
Two days ago, at noon, I saw a pregnant woman at a Georgetown restaurant drinking several glasses of wine and then lighting a cigarette when she was leaving. This, for me, it's also a disturbing story. |
Oh my god, I saw a pregnant woman sipping caffeinated coffee at Dean & DeLuca in G'town too! She had a child with her, and she didn't hold her hand across M Street. In fact, I'm fairly positive - and I can't get this out of my head - that she might have given her a nudge to encourage her off the curb.
Horrifying. |
Perhaps this was your child (in the OP) getting pushed. Karma. You too pp. |
We do not hire people to treat (push, hit, insult, etc) our children this way.... |
Can we all really say that we've never panicked at an intersection, and hurried our kids along with what I'd call a "firm" hand instead of a gentler guiding hand? I do agree that physical actions -- pushing, hitting, insulting et cetera, are bad. But in this case I interpret it not as a bullying teacher, but as concern over the kids' safety, and the kids involved may well have taken it that way too. |
