We experienced this last year. This is something CW will often ask players to do at ID sessions. I don’t think it was a set up — some of the union players were also asked to do so. The ones with offers already in hand did play their normal positions.

This is done to look for intuitive understanding of other roles on field. Common to see this asked particularly for players where there is an interest in order to understand their capacity. Not a set up for failure but method for a deeper look.

A player that is versatile and can play different positions is more valuable. My teens have played every position on the field and have no problem if coach needs to fill them in somewhere else.

Perfectly fine on a practice set up and a later ages. Here after a merge, players were there to show their best not otherwise. Really, some people here have no clue or have never played the sport.

DP. any kid old enough to play ECNL should have the versatility to play any field position well. It actually sounds like you didn't play competitively.

haha, I did, I would love to show you how it is done. There are levels. They are from 2011 (not old enough); again, no clue! Keep watching baseball.

You're an idiot. No one cares about your aging soccer skills. Go coach a team and you can run your tryouts however you want. The coaches at the ID sessions from Union and Brave know these girls. They've tried out together the past few years and they've played with or against each other for just as long. They've seen their improvements over the past year or two. They know who is working outside of practice and who isn't. ID sessions are a chance for kids to show interest, compatibility, and little more. They're not combing the country for the next great music icon, they're looking for the 18-20 kids that they've seen for years that want to play for them and fill a need.

Lovely, hit a nerve. You have no clue, your music analogy does not rhyme either, I hope you are at least good with numbers. 😂

Everybody chill. Pro soccer is in Europe. For college, have your kid focus on academics instead because there isn’t much juice in pro soccer here unless you are Messi on intern Miami.

LOVE Intern Miami. Beast team ever!

Well if they have 10 strikers but your kid can play that and outside mid or center back very well too—guess who gets picked. It’s the same in college, btw. I know “forwards” who now play defense in college.

Sure at later ages. 2011, don’t think so? And to only Brave girls? See the plot? It might have worked.

One more ID session for boys on Sunday.

Good luck if you are still waiting for an offer to FVU.

If your son received an offer and intends on joining FVU, let's make the best of this experiment and look forward to a good season.

.

I like this approach much better than the comment above this one. Really sad to read.

Everyone is just re-hashing the same conversation..over.....and......over.....and......over.

Will my kid make the team? Which kid is going to which club? Who isn't on the team?

It will be what it will be. No new news on here anymore.

Move on to a new topic concern for the partnership: UNIFORMS!!

Can we please talk uniforms!!?

Why? Doesn’t this club have its own website or way to communicate plans, uniforms, etc.? Why is everything communicated via DCUM and shared with the entire world? Anyone googling FVU Soccer club is being directed to these nasty thread.

Someone already posted the most important thing regarding uniforms which is getting rid of those ugly orange socks. It can only go up from there!

Uniforms — can we convince the club to not use soccer.com?? Very convenient, of course, but sooooooo expensive. Our past club used PJs and the kit was about 60% less. Can we convince them that supporting a local business would be better and more cost-effective for families particularly given many are buying their second if not third set of uniforms in just as many years?

To be fair, if the cost of uniforms is a huge thing to you in the ECNL/MLS Next/GA world, you may want to consider another sport or doing rec. Maybe apply for financial aid from your club. Uniforms aren't inexpensive. However, in the long run, they are not the largest cost you will incur.

Stop whining and be grateful you have an offer. Others don't and are looking at plan B and C

Maybe just heat transfer "Mc" in front of "Brave" to form McBrave?

Problem is solved for you with no extra cost. You are welcome. The moth in your wallet/purse/pocketbook thanks me too.
