St Johns in Annapolis?

Anonymous
Anybody have a son or daughter go there? I never hear it discussed on this forum. Would have loved the Great Books seminar approach myself, but how do grad schools/employers view it? I understand there are no varsity sports, only intramural, which would appeal to my kids, unlike many in this area. Is it very selective? Does it have a reputation for being very conservative or liberal? TIA

I did not go there, but have a number of friends who are tutors there, and know quite a few grads. It's a very small, very good school full of highly intelligent students. The academics are quite rigorous - don't be fooled by the no SAT/no grades thing. They read the classics in the original language (Homer and Plato in ancient Greek, Lavoisier in French, etc.) They have another campus in Santa Fe where students can "study abroad." It's not for everyone...but it's quite a good school and their graduates seem to be employed at the same rate as graduates of other schools, a high percentage go on to grad school, with an unusually high number earning PhDs. Graduates have highly developed critical thinking skills - an asset in any industry.
