Is your child at Janney now? I would do a search of this forum for past threads on this.

Based on my experience, I would agree with those who say that the special ed coordinator isn't the most proactive. We were turned down for services (not for ASD) and basically got a pat on the back that "it's great that you're doing services on your own," without any follow-up or offers to help.

On the other hand, I'm very impressed with the school leadership overall in terms of their desire to make sure every kid is at his/her best. They have a number of systems in place to make sure this happens, once your get on the right person's radar (meaning front office, not special ed coordinator). And I think that the new school psychologist is very good, and I've heard good things from other parents about other providers at the school.

My child is not there yet but he will start pretty soon,

I'm very worry about if school has a good services
We gonna have a meeting with the principal but you know
Parent's opinion is much more real than what school's staff say for parents.

Thanks for this information this is really helps a lot.

Our son is not there yet, but he also has ASD. His Developmental Pediatrician has had other patients go there and had good experiences. He did say you have to keep following up. Make sure you get an IEP with all your child's needs included.

Good luck!

I have three different acquaintances who send one of their children to an independent nwdc school, and send their other child to Janney specifically so their ASD-ADHD kid can get the therapies and services at no additional cost / during the day.

Well, that, and the probability that the child with SN would not be a fit at our particular private school.

So I take that as a real endorsement of whatever is going on at Janney. It must be effective because these are all families who could easily sell and move to Bethesda or Arlington next week -- but they stay in dcps-Janney.

I have a child getting speech at Janney. I love the speech therapist. Dr. Wood is another story. I heard her openly bad mouthing a parent, which is pretty bad and really unprofessional.
