HELP! 9 Week old only sleeping in bouncy seat and starting daycare in a month!

Anonymous
My DD will start daycare at the end of November and she is currently (9 weeks) only sleeping in her bouncy seat. She will, of course, sleep on us as well, but hates to be flat on her back in her bassinet. Now maybe between now and 12 weeks we will get her to sleep in her bassinet or crib, but has anyone has anyone had any experience taking a little one to daycare when they weren't sleeping well in a crib yet? Also, we usually hold her or rock her to sleep and I am concerned about her being able to fall asleep in general at daycare too. HELP!!! Any advice is much appreciated.

That's not uncommon. I wouldn't worry about it. Kids do different things at daycare so your child may actually sleep in a crib there, if not then he/she will sleep in a bouncy seat.

Around that age I started putting my DS in his crib for at least 1 nap a day. I'd try and have him in his crib for at least 1 hour a day, whether or not he slept. If he cried, I'd try to comfort him. If I had to take him out, I'd stand next to the crib and then try and put him back.

Now at 14 weeks, he will only sleep in his crib or the car.

I'm sure daycare will let him sleep in his bouncy if they absolutely have to and I'm SURE they've dealt with these situations before. It's very common. Just make sure you talk with them about it.

I had to laugh a little bit b/c I could have written your exact post about 3 years ago. My DD would only sleep in her carseat and I was panicked about daycare, crib, etc. At ten weeks I worked on transitioning her to her crib -- it took a good week or so, but eventually she slept there fine. If your daycare is anything like ours, those ladies have seen it all! And you'll be amazed at what they can do. They'll have him sleeping in a crib in no time. Bottom line is, don't worry -- he won't be sleeping in a bouncy seat when he goes to college (as my DH liked to kid me about our DD).

Don't worry. Bouncy seats seem to be the sleep aids of choice at daycare facilities. I had the exact same predicament, but now my 9 month old doesn't bat an eyelid when moved from the bouncy to the crib mid-sleep.

You should be able to train her, but it takes some time and patience. If you don't, she'll learn to adapt at daycare. Either way, they all learn to sleep in a crib.

We had a similar issue but it worked itself out. Our 14 week old DD just started daycare and only sleeps in a swing. Our daycare center doesn't allow bouncy seats (or swings for that matter) so that the kids aren't just left in a seat all day. I was really worried about how/where she would sleep. On the second day they got her to sleep in a crib on her side. I wasn't thrilled with them putting her to sleep on her side so now they put her on her back in a boppy. She really likes the feeling of being snuggled and the boppy works for her. She can't roll yet, so I'm not worried about her being in a boppy. We're also working on moving her into the crib at home. We've been unsuccessful thus far. Even putting her down in the crib when she's sound asleep causes her to wake up screaming about 10 minutes later. Sigh...

My daycare had very experienced caregivers. My DS was also sleeping in a bouncy seat at home vice crib for a while....he did fine at daycare. They will work with you to ensure your little one gets the naps she needs. My DS slept better at daycare vice home surprisingly.
