Ceasar Chavez Elementary School

Does anyone have any information on the school. I have looked at MD Assessment page and drive by the school and the situation looks very bleak.

My daughter went ther for K and 1 then she switched to the TAG program at Glenarden woods. The school was ok the teachers are good. I think the PTA struggles to get organized because many parents don't speak English or are wary about getting involved and making noise. Also the Principal is a problem - he micromanaged and controls everything which leads to bottlenecks in organization of events, etc. Additionally, after K they don't really do Spanish immersion anymore - which was the biggest plus they had in my mind.

OP here. There is one other parent in my neighborhood that is interested in bringing about change to this school.

I have done a little surface research on the school and over the next month, I plan to visit the school and speak with the administrators. I think we can work on getting more parents involved to improve the playground area and make the building more physically appealing to kids.

I am still on the fence about how much I want to get involved with the school, since I might move out of the county.

Just called my state senator about the school and he responded promptly. I hope that we can rally around this school to place Cesar Chavez on the radar of the school board, work with the parents there, and bring additional resources to the school.

Kiki would you mind sharing the contact information for the senator you spoke to? I think when we find people who are responsive it is good to get the info out there. Thanks!
