What the hell is the matter what this school? I have a child in this school and the principal is awful, the teachers doesn't respond to email or phone calls, and the entire staff is mean and nasty. Other than moving or going private, is their any recourse? I just can't get over this horrible, awful year we have had and no one has ever answered any of my emails or phone calls. They have the nastiest staff I have ever encountered.

call the county office. everyone has a boss including the principal.

Not the OP, but I've called the County Office about the principal of this school and absolutely nothing was done. They protect their own.

RP has some good teachers, but they don't seem to communicate well with parents. They are doing their jobs teaching and seem to devote little time to anything else.
All of the last three principals have been meanies.

This principal, she is not just mean, she is incompetent, and runs an excessively punitive environment. There is nothing positive that goes on at Ritchie Park. Children get in trouble and are punished for the tiniest infraction and what they learn is why try to behave because it doesn't matter anyway. The school is soooo out of control the parents are constantly getting behavior notes and phone calls about incidents with no follow through or attempts to correct anything. It is a mess.

My child went there a few years ago and it was not a good experience the last few years she was there. Horrible communication and lazy work ethic.

And all the teachers yell and shame kids to the point that other children laugh at them. It's awful.

I never saw that. The para educators did though, during lunch. Then ignored them during recess. The 1st grade team that used to be there was wonderful. They all left. I wonder why?

Any time you see a high turnover of staff, it's not good. Usually you can blame the administration.

Because the principal is awful and offers no support to her staff. I know for a fact the second grade teachers yell "get out your agenda book" and write a note in front of all the kids while the students laugh and the kid who is getting a note. Shaming at its best.

And the para educators are the WORST at this school. Especially during lunch...it is like they are on a weird be mean to kids power trip.

Did anyone else notice it was a Ritchie park teacher quoted in the Washington post article? I wonder how that happened.

The assistant principal is good. But she essentially has no power. The school counselor is terrible. And she gossips about other families, to other families.
