OMG. Family wants to go to Zaytinya

Anonymous
I have family coming in from out of town and they suggested this place.

I have been to this place and love it but it does NOT seem kid friendly. Has anyone been there with young-ish kids?

DS is 7 and won't be exactly running around screaming or anything, but I always fear stink-eye from people who detest and abhor children.

Would you suggest going somewhere else or should I just take a deep breath and roll with it? Our reservation is at 6 pm which is on the early side, I guess.

7 y.o should be fine.

I think you should totally fine at 6pm with a 7 year old. That place is so loud anyway that even if he were being loud himself, I doubt anyone else could hear. Enjoy!

you'll be fine. heck i would even take younger kids there. it is so loud that it won't even matter.

I've seen children in Zaytinya.

It's crazy loud in there. I would not be concerned about that at all. What I would be concerned about is whether my picky 7-year-old would find anything they'd be willing to eat!

Eight years ago when it was new and hot, maybe not.

Now? The bloom is off the rose and I don't think you'll encounter any of stink-eye types. They're all at Le Diplomate this month.

You will be fine. Go early and it will be loud.

I've seen kids in Zaytinya. Hell, I've brought my baby to Zaytinya for lunch and no one batted an eye.

A 7 year old should be able to handle it.

7 should be fine. Just be practical and pack him some activities.

I brought my baby to Zaytinya once when she was 3 months old. It was one of those FTM live-and-learn things. Never again.

OP here - thanks all! That is helpful. I have only done happy hour at the bar, so never had a chance to take in the full scene. It is loud in there, I forgot!

Yeah, the menu is not so kid-friendly, but maybe they can grill up a plain chicken breast and he can gorge himself on bread. Healthy.

I think the menu is fine for kids--they have lots of different dishes, and it's not like the food is crazy spicy or strange. Grilled meats, hummus and dips, etc. Unless the kid only eats macaroni and cheese, he should be able to find someething he likes.

Also ask if you can sit at the new community table on the patio.

i took my 2 year old. he loved it. i actually talked to a waitress there about kids before i took him. she said it's very kid-friendly (as most of jose andres' restaurants are). they have high chairs. i would not worry about a 7 year old there at all. it's not a fancy restaurant, it's just a nice restaurant with good food.
