Good team for 8 year old who wants to start soccer in Montgomery County area.

Hi. My daughter has finally gotten the soccer bug and would like for me to sign her up. She will be in third grade this fall. Can anyone suggest a good league for her to start in? She has not played before and I don't want to put her with girls who have played for 3 years already. Or does it matter? We live in lower Montgomery County..Rockville, etc. Thank you!

MSI Soccer is a popular organization for soccer. Look up msisoccer.org She'll be with kids who have been playing for a few years. That will be good for her. She'll learn more, faster.

Ask around among her friends mom's to find a recreational team if anyone has them. Not sure what is in lower MoCo but in Gaithersburg the popular ones are SAM, Gaithersburg City and MSI. You could also do an after school class, check the papers that come home from school in the fall to find one.

Just do the rec league at MSI. She'll be fine and it's fun!

By 3rd grade most kids have been playing for a few years and teams have been formed so it may be difficult to get on a team with school friends but MSI will find a team for you.

OP here. Thank you for all of your helpful suggestions. I appreciate them. I am also amazed at how many nasty people don't have anything else to do but come to DC Urban Moms to insult others. I guess they have no place else to take out their anger. Just my observation from reading other forums here.

MSI is the perfect solution. I played it forever and kids started and stopped all the time so there were lots of openings each season. Lots of girls seem to like it but then as elementary school progresses some decide it isn't "girly" enough and stop or maybe some focus on another activity and stop soccer. Whatever the reason, MSI is perfect for someone who needs to learn. The really fanatical soccer parents will already have put their kids on select teams so you will probably be playing with the more relaxed group anyway.

This poster may have thought you wanted to sign up for Spring. Fall Registration usually starts in June.I would do it sooner rather than later as she will have to get on a team that is probably already established.
