We're thinking of partially renovating an old house - all internal stuff. We want to pull down 4 internal walls - I don't think any are structurally necessary (and if they are, we're good with keeping pillars in their place), redo the basement flooring, add a kitchen island and do some plumbing.
We are totally new to all of this and DC and so: 1. Do we need city permits for indoor / internal work? 2. Do we need to hire a contractor or can we stick to just hiring a plumber, electrician, handyman etc (I understand that contractors cost a lot more). Thanks! |
| U suppose to, or risking for fine at around $2k for each violation. |
| Pp, u don't need to hire a contractor |

Jesus people, stop with the text speak and spell the 3 letters in "you"... are we all 14?
You better know what you are doing before you start pulling down walls, probably get a structural engineering assessment (~$500) to be sure. You'll also have some permits to deal with and therefor code to follow. Still, it's not rocket science and is a great learning experience if you are game. Just make sure that you are doing it right... |
| Thanks everyone! Yes, it seems like we do need some external assistance and possibly some permits! |
