The Lab School-would you recommend the summer program for an upcoming K student?

DD has SPD and moderate gross/fine motor delays but otherwise does is at the level of her peers in things like being able to sound out words/knowledge of sight words (can read Dr. Seuss books fluently) and math. She's having some difficulty in regular preschool to her sensitivity to lots of things. We are planning to enroll her in public K this fall to try it out and would love to find a summer program where she can get the OT and other help she needs. We are on Moco and DD does not have an IEP/504 as we were told we couldn't get one for SPD. TIA!

I'm not sure they take rising K students. But I'd call the school and ask. My DD who was a rising first grader last year attended and it was great. She has executive functioning, processing and fine and gross motor skill issues. We are sending her back this summer.

Love, love Lab!

OP, she's eligible for the OT program (AM or PM). See page 6:

dear op -
The summer before K for my sensory child - the best things we did were (a) a ton of swimming - mostly free play (just hours and hours each week) and some formal classes, (b) gymnastics, and (c) outdoor time - lots of hikes on area paths. We had graduated from OT by that time, but the summer of swim/gymnastics seemed to help calm down his sensory issues even more.

Looking at the lab brochure, they start their day in the pool, so they seem to also recognize how swimming can help kids with sensory issues.

So, if you can't do lab, you can still cobble together a "sensory diet" that will help your child succeed come the fall.

I am OP and just wanted to say thank you to the PPs. DD was only recently diagnosed so we've been confused about what to do. This is extremely helpful! Maybe we will run in to other at the Lab School this summer if there is still room in the OT program.
