DH and I are signed up for the Color Run at the national harbor on the 19th.
If you have done one before, do you have any tips? |
| Sounds like fun! Good for you finding such a great couple activity. |

Just did the one in Baltimore on Saturday! So much fun.
*Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the powder. If you want to, bring a bandana to put over your mouth too. (If you keep your mouth closed, it doesn't get in there too much) *wear clothes you don't care about. I wore a tank top under my white shirt and still got color on the tank and my sports bra. So far, it seems like the color came out of my shoes easily. The clothes still have color after one wash, but I'm told Oxyclean can help get it out if you really want to. *Very important: Bring old sheets/blankets to cover your car seat. Otherwise you will get color on your car. The race gives you a Color Run shirt, so I changed into my extra shirt after the race. *You don't have to run the entire time. Plenty of people jog it and some walk the entire time. This isn't a race where you aim for a personal record. *I brought a small backpack type bag so that I could stash my extra shirt, cell phone, keys, etc. I wouldn't bring a cell phone to the race if you didn't at least put it in a plastic bag. Some people run with their ipods and it seems silly to me -- the powder gets everywhere! Overall it was SO much fun. They had Zumba beforehand to warm up if you wanted. An exfoliating wash got the color off my face easily. Have fun!! |
| NP here. Thank you PP! This is helpful. I'm doing one in June in Alexandria. |
This is OP. THANK YOU!! Great tips!!! |
Thanks! We like to mix it up and not just go out for dinner for our "dates"
|

Oh, the race has a water station about halfway through, and another at the end. So you don't have to bring your own water to the race.
They sell merchandise there (but it's also sold online). |
| WTF is a color run? sounds annoying. |
| I did the National Harbor one last September. Get there super-early and plan to just hang out and enjoy people-watching. Otherwise, you'll be stuck in a very, very long line of cars waiting to park, well after the race has begun. |
Ha! For a second I thought I blacked out and posted this |
It's a gimmick, but one that I'm excited about because it looks fun Basically, it's a low-key "race" (this one is 5k) and you get sprayed with non-toxic color powders so you're all rainbow-y by the end. It's one of those "just for fun, why the hell not" type things.

| My daughter did the Baltimore run, as well, and I would echo all of 13:04's advice. She and her friend had a fantastic time. |
That's what I thought too until I saw the price. Holy moly. I was going to sign up with my kids and DH but it would've cost us over $200 for a 5k!! WTH? |

For more information: you get hit with a different color at each k. blue, orange, yellow, purple (?) and green. It's basically colored corn starch. They are supposed to try and aim for your shirt mostly, but sometimes the aim is off because some of the volunteers are kids.
FWIW, they do donate and have charity partners. http://thecolorrun.com/charity/ In 2013 they plan to donate at least a million dollars. |
| Silly question--do people wear their own white shirts or do they wear the shirt you get in the race packet? |
