So, did anyone see it already? Did you like it?
I did. I would rate it 3 out of 5 stars, but still enjoyed it. Because it was a date with my husband ![]() |
no one?! |
I plan to see it this weekend. Check back in with me then. ![]() |
I saw it. It was actually better than I thought. The actor playing Tom Buchanan was fantastic! I wasn't sure of I'd like the style of the director because I didn't like Moulin Rouge but this was pretty good. |
I was hoping it was going to be great (hah! a pun) but the reviews have been awful. Too bad. So, 13:48, is this an appropriate movie for a 15 year-old? Husband says no. I've read the reviews (very negative) but haven't checked for rating. |
I didn't like the director's other movies but liked Gatsby. Lots to look at and really liked the casting. Left feeling a bit depressed bc the end was done well. |
Finally they are doing this literary in the format F.Scott always intended.

I saw the movie and thought it was a lot better than the reviews. Some of the people in my audience dressed up in Great Gatsby garb (Georgetown AMC) -- lot's of fun. I don't think the reviewers were fair. Fun and flash! |
Stylish and entertaining enough - but a little schmaltzy. Liked the book and the Redford film more. |
We saw the movie with our 14 year old. She "thought Daisy was a butthead" The movie was not great. DiCaprio was good but it seemed like the rest of the movie casting was just to showcase him. Not very interesting or sympathetic. Looking at the Nick character got old. And Daisy's husband was way off cast for a Yalie of the 1920s. The women had bizarre southern/society accents. |
^^As for the appropriateness for a 14 year old. They made out. Kissed. Glee is more radical. |
Of course Daisy is a butthead. They're all buttheads. There's nobody likable in the whole book! |
The book is often assigned to freshman or sophomore HS English. Not sure why the movie would be "inappropriate." |
Edelstein of New York Magazine liked it. No all reviews have been terrible. |
I was not a fan of putting hip-hop in the 20s or of putting Nick in the looney bin. 3.5 stars out of 5 from this end. |
