If your male partner was/is on testosterone, please share your experience

DH and I have been TTC for 6 months following 2 miscarriages last summer. We conceived our first child easily, and got pregnant last summer on the first try with both pregnancies. Now, despite charting and using the clearblue fertility monitor and timing sex perfectly, I cannot get pregnant.

What's changed is that DH's doctor stared him on testosterone injections late last summer. Said if we have trouble TTC, he can 'just go off' the injections. But now I'm reading that he needs to be off the injections for a minimum of three months, and I've seen that for some men, the sperm count never quite returns.

He hasn't had his sperm tested yet; we are going for our first appt at Shady Grove in early June. He is reluctant to stop the injections until we know if his sperm count is low from the medication, because it makes him feel so much better, but I want him to stop now, before testing. I am late 30s, so really want to get pregnant soon, if I even can anymore.

Just looking to see if anyone here has TTC while make partner on testosterone and how it went for you.

If you want to conceive he needs to be off the testosterone, it definitely affects sperm count and motility

OP here. DH's sperm analysis came back. Sperm count = ZERO. RE says it can take 6 months for count to comeback up. I am so angry with DH's doctor, who knew we were TTC when she put him on testosterone injections.

Op, so sorry you and dh went through this. I know this is an old thread and I hope by now youve had better luck ttc.

I'm wondering why your dh decided to get testosterone therapy and how he knew he needed it. My dh has basically no libido and no energy and has been tested and does in fact have low testosterone. He's considering treatment but is unsure. How did it change things for your dh (besides sperm count) with the treatment? Was he having libido issues before? Thanks.

Wait a minute. My doctor told me that natural growth hormones that are injected do not have a negative affect on sperm and it did not seem to during our last cycle.

I thought it was the artificial testosterone (the gel) that causes problems.
