My husband has eczema and eating a gluten free diet has helped.

If its eczema, then yes, moisture is key.

Lukewarm bath, short, no soap. Daily. Follow immediately with Aquaphor or Vaseline from neck to toes. Has to be immediate to seal in moisture. Doesn't work without the bath. If you have to use soap, use Cetaphil facial cleanser. Very mild.

Benedryl is the older type of antihistamine and works much better than Zyrtec or Claritin, but it makes you sleepy. I'd give it nightly for a bit to see if it calms down the itching.

I've had eczema my whole life. I find being outside in the sun and swimming in chlorinated pools helps. But if your daughter had environmental allergies, that may not help.

While lotion is important, it's also important to let the skin breath. If your daughter can manage to not scratch for even just 30 minutes (maybe let her watch a favorite cartoon?), then letting the skin without any water or lotion on it air out will really help.

Hope she feels better soon!

If dust is an allergen, you can get mattresses and pillows that can keep out dust.

Also, a cornstarch bath for eczema helps - old school, but effective in my experience.

A great product I use is CapriClear. It's all natural and great for the little ones. You can get from their website or from any Ulta stores.

Try a bath with the colloidal (sp?) oatmeal or a bath with baby oil added to the water. This helps my eczema-riddled skin soak in the moisture like no other and relieves the itchiness.

We just started calendula with our son who unfortunately inherited my husband's sides' bad skin problems. My husband's exema flares up badly in heat. So far, the calendula seems to be helping with my son's skin. Worth a try. There are a lot of different brands at Whole Foods and the like.
