bunion surgeon recommendations

I have read multiple threads about bunion surgery on here, and wanted to start one that dealt most with recommendations on local bunion surgeons. It would also be nice to get tips on who to avoid in the area....I am leaning towards Mark Myerson in Baltimore; he is supposed to be top-notch at least when it comes to general foot and ankle surgeries; I am hoping this also includes bunion surgery =) Mine is tiny, you can hardly even see it, BUT the pain I am experiencing is deep joint pain, so it needs to be treated soon.

Anyone recommend or not recommend any DC, MD, VA surgeon?

No to Myerson. WE drove up to Baltimore from D.C. He kept us waiting 3 hours. Then he came in, gave my foot a glance. Talked to his intern doctors - never gave me eye contact. He actually said he thought magnets might work and he walked out the door. Most arrogant self-important doctor I have ever met. He left the intern/resident to figure out magnets for my feet. Right. Resident inserts him. I go home and test them - resident put it in upside down.

I doubt Myerson even does a bunionectomy because he thinks he's too good for such a simple procedure. I doubt he will handle it himself - he'll probably have one of the many interns running around after him do it. So if you really think you are going to do it, ask him if he is personally going to do the surgery.

Thank you for the information. That is really disappointing to hear. I have an appointment with him scheduled for August (yup, he books 4 months in advance) and i may have to think twice about keeping that one based on your review. I would love to find a surgeon closer to DC anyway....

Two people (who don't know each other) have recommended Melissa Smith, a podiatrist in Alexandria, to me for my bunion. It takes a while to get into see her - my appointment isn't until June, but both my friends raved about her, and the reviews on Yelp agree.

Call a local university athletic department and ask who their foot surgeon is. They only work with the best.
