Is Palin the future of the Republican party?

I'm curious to know what other republicans think of this. If McCain loses do you think Palin will emerge as a leader for the national party or is it over for her?

Whether as a politician, political commentator, talk show host, or just general celebrity, I think she'll be around for quite a while.

The RNC could start an American Idol for political newbies to jump start their career in politics. McCain's decision has crash landed SArah Palin on the national (and international) stage.

Oh, I do hope that she becomes a future of the Republican Party. Because I'm a Democrat. But usually politicians with 50% negative ratings don't go very far.

With all the leaks we've been reading about lately, saying Sarah Palin has "gone rogue" and is a "diva" and is a "whack job" -- I'm thinking a lot of Republicans are already distancing themselves from her, meaning they do not see her as the next leader of the republican party.

She is definitely not going anywhere -- there is a core group tha LOVES her.

Anyone that attractive, brash and ignorant will do well in this country.

Well, TV does cater to the lowest common denominator. My fear is the dumbing down of America for political gains of a national party that will only go further to the right.

She will definately be around, but will have a very small base. McCain's supporters in the party leadership are going to burn her in effigy (they are doing it already), but the far right will embrace her. She will be 2012's Mike Huckabee but I doubt that she will make it 1600 Penn (except as a guest) or have much impact on the national scene..

I hope you are correct. BTW, are you a Rep or Dem?

Mike Huckabee will be 2012's Mike Huckabee. In the first poll on the subject, 36% of Republicans want ROmney as the 2012 candidate, 25% want Huckabee, and 20% want Palin. And that's with Huckabee out of the spotlight for months.

Meanwhile, under Alaska law, Palin cannot be paid to have a talk show or do speaking engagements while governor. She can "write" a book (a pop-up book, maybe?) while in office, but no paid media, and she can't go to NYC and DC to do the cable shows on the state's dime.

She'll be 2008's Katherine Harris, and good riddance.

Personally even though I'm a raging liberal I like Mike Huckabee. Disagree with everything he stands for except weight loss, but he's a likeable guy with a good sense of humor, he's got integrity, and he ran a state that's bigger than PG County.

Also, Palin might impress the wing-nuts as TOnto to McCain's Lone Ranger, but I don't think that the "submit graciously to your husband" set is going to accept a woman at the top of the ticket.

They don't' like women to be on top.

Registered as a Dem, but I gave an unbiased answer. I really think that her policital star will continue to burn bit it will be a very contained fire. BTW, when I said the she would be 2012's Huckabee, I meant that she would rack up a few delegates in the primaries and maybe win a few states outright but can't see her being a real threat to win the nomination with the likes of Romney in the race. Plus who knows what other competion for the Repub nod will come out of the woodwork in the next 4 years.

Total leftist here but I think Mike Huckabee is quite dangerous because he is charming and adorable and he knows how to work an audience without having cue cards. I first heard him as a guest on the humorous NPR game show, "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me." He was sooooo funny and I didn't know his politics at the time. I was enchanted. And then appalled when I realized what he stood for.

Palin can't hold a candle to him for charm. Her problem is that she can't speak extemporaneously, otherwise she might have a career as a beautiful talking head.
