| In the recent Potomac thread, someone mentioned Mclean as a suburb with a reasonable commute to georgetown. Is that true? I know NOTHING about Mclean, other than that the high school is good. Can anyone who lives there shed any light? Any particular neighborhoods that are good for young families, recently transplanted from the city? Is there a true downtown? Good restaurants? Is anything walkable? A sense of community and the sorts of hubs (like pool clubs, a good library, a ymca..I don't know) that encourage a sense of community? I'd appreciate any insight you all have! |
| I recommend that you search "McLean" on this forum and on the "VA public schools" forum. All of your questions have already been answered a dozen times. |
| iTS THE BOMB BEST PLACE EVEHAH |
+1 and ignore the MD haters |
| Yes decent commute. No to great resaurants. But there are some great neighborhoods around several of the elementary schools. What's your budget? |
| I think McLean is the best area. I don't live there because in order to get what I want I would need 1.7 million. |
| Price range of $1 million to maybe $1.1 |
| Not walkable, but a nice area. |
stop with the walkable shit, we have money to buy cars, in fact I own 2 |
| Boring. Suburban. You can walk to Georgetown from Arlington. |

Imagine Potomac, but with less mansions and all the retail and restaurants you can imagine (potomac has no retail except the miniature village shopping center). It's retail etc. is second to manhattan. You can go out to eat just about anything you could possibly think of, and buy anything you want within 5 minutes with the 2 malls. It's the convenience and places to go within 5 mins. that makes McLean so much better than Potomac. And once you get to know people, the town starts to feel small, like everybody knows everybody.
But if you are looking for a big ass mansion on a huge lot on a street that just exudes wealth and you don't care about having to drive 15-30 minutes to go do anything, then potomac might be for you. Forget arlington, OMG, that is not the area I think you are looking for at all. It was cool in my 20s I suppose, and even then it was sort of poserish. |
You forgot big TASTELESS ass mansion. What do people DO with 20,000 square feet of house in Potomac? |
You haven't been paying attention. They have pot-smoking swinger parties catered by California Pizza Kitchen...on Friday nights. On Saturdays, the screen the newest Will Smith movie in their media room after polishing their Hummers in the afternoon. |
| Oh dear. That does sound exciting. I've been missing out. |
BS, why would I polish my own hummer, the only hummer getting polished by a member of the household doesn't involve a car. |
